Opening Day: April 7, 2010
"Marie Webster Quilts: A Homecoming" will open on April 7 and run until July 10, 2010 - the first exhibit of Marie's quilt designs in her own home in Marion, Indiana - now The Quilters Hall of Fame.
The exhibit will feature four quilts made by Marie's own hands, from 1912 to 1936, in addition to a variety of her designs made by other outstanding quiltmakers during the last century. Prize-winning quilts include a "Flower Basket" quilt made in 1930s multi-colored calicoes from Marie's "Pink Dogwood in Baskets" pattern, and the stunning masterpiece, "The Webster Garden," by Sandi McMillan, that appeared in the AQS Quilt Art Engagement Calendar for 2005.
Also on view will be some of the one-block quilts made by members of the Baltimore Applique Society from Webster patterns for our silent auction last year.
Those of you who enjoyed "Marie Webster's Garden of Quilts," shown in the library at the July 2009 TQHF Celebration, will welcome this follow-up exhibit with a different selection of quilts, many never exhibited before!
The Marie D. Webster House continues to regally adorn the 900 block of South Washington Street in Marion, Indiana. The Quilters Hall of Fame has been housed in this queenly structure now for five years! This exhibit depicts the twelve-year restoration journey that took Marie's 1902 home from "Ugly Duckling" to Majestic Lady".
