Jinny Beyer
Quilter, pattern and fabric designer, author of Medallion Quilts and others.
Inducted in 1984 at the Continental Quilting Congress, Arlington, Virginia.
Jinny Beyer began her first quilt while living in India, using Indian fabrics in colors of deep red and dark
blue. The darker hues became a hallmark of her future quilts. “Ray of Light” won first place among
10,000 entries in Good Housekeeping’s Great American Quilt Contest” in 1978, and her “Bicentennial
Quilt” won a first place in the 1979 Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine contest.

She considers herself a traditional quiltmaker as she uses only 100% cottons and makes quilts by
hand. She is known nationally and internationally for her workshops, lectures, and her annual Jinny
Beyer Seminar at Hilton Head, which first took place in 1981. She has written several books, including
Patchwork Pattern, her first, in 1979, and The Art and Technique of Creating Medallion Quilts in 1982.
Also that year she designed a line of fabrics for VIP, but now produces her signature line with RJR
Fashion Fabrics.

She received the Silver Star Award at the International Quilt Festival in 1995, the Michael Kile Award of
Achievement at Quilt Market, 1996, and her quilt “Ray of Light” was chosen at one of the 100 Best
American Quilts of the 20th Century in 1999. Her name appears in the book, 88 Leaders in the Quilt
World Today.
